Classification Of Newbuildings

The classification of newbuildings is to conduct an objective and fair evaluation on the relative safety and reliability of the ship’s structural strength including the vessel’s watertight qualities, propulsion, maneuvering and auxiliary systems, and other functions according to ship classification regulations and rules, so as to promote the ship’s safe navigation at sea, prevent pollution at sea and meet the needs of government, shipowners, insurers, shipyards, and marine product or material manufacturers.

The newbuilding classification survey refers to the inspections and tests carried out by the classification society or its agent on the ships that are to have or are classed by the classification society in accordance with the inspection scope and requirements specified in the ship classification rules.

The purpose is to ascertain whether the structural strength, propulsion, maneuvering and auxiliary equipment, systems and maintenance of the surveyed ship meet the relevant requirements of the classification rules. The bases are the conventions and regulations accepted by the flag state, laws and regulations promulgated by the flag state and related provisions; China Classification Society (CCS) rules; approved drawings; construction standards accepted by CCS; other content specified in the construction survey contract; other relevant provisions, including CCS guidelines, instructions, procedure documents, technical standards and circulars, etc. approved or accepted by CCS.
