CCS provides world-leading technical codes and standards and offers classification survey services for ships, offshore installations and related industrial products. The class society also provides statutory survey, verification surveys, notarial surveys, certification and accreditation and other services in accordance with international conventions, regulations and related rules of the authorizing flag states or regions.

With the authorization of the administrations of flag states or regions, CCS carries out statutory survey and other services as authorized by the administrations. Up to now, CCS has been authorized by the world’s 60 major shipping states or regions, including China, to perform statutory surveys for the ships and offshore installations flying their flags.

With the Objective of “Safety, Environmental protection and Creating value for clients and society”, and based on the 128 offices established worldwide, CCS provides services for a range of industries and fields including shipping, shipbuilding, shipping finance and insurance, marine equipment, ocean resources exploitation, ocean scientific research, industrial project supervision, system certification, government policy and rule development, energy saving and emission reduction, risk management and evaluation, and CCS is constantly developing new business areas.

By sticking to the Policy of “Building first-class international classification society with own characteristics and with technology as the foundation and credibility as the cornerstone”, CCS has improved its image and value continuously through advanced technologies and quality services, and it is widely and highly recognized by the international industry.

The development course

Sun Feng was appointed President of CCS and Cai Yanxian Vice President. The appointments followed the retirement of former President Mo Jianhui and former Vice President Zhu Kai.
China‘s first floating offshore wind power platform, SAN XIA YIN LING, surveyed by CCS, was successfully connected to the grid for power generation.
CCS successfully completed the sea trial of the world‘s first LNG dual-fuel very large crude carrier (VLCC) YUAN RUI YANG in a conventional fuel mode,and the ship is classed by CCS.
The world's first airborne SCR low-speed dieselengine CX52, independently developed by China, was officially launched. CCS took part in its development and surveyed it.
The world‘s first 100,000 DWT deep-water (1,500m) semi-submersible production and storage platform SHEN HAI 1, surveyed by CCS, was successfully placed into operation.
The Ship and Offshore Engineering Industry Data Sharing Summit and China Ship/Shipping Block Chain (CSBC) Alliance Founding Conference, sponsored by CCS, were successfully held in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province.
The first Chinese ocean-going fishing vessel, ZHONG TAI 6, classified by CCS, was successfully delivered.
The 320,000 DWT ultra-large oil tanker (VLCC) YUANGUIYANG, classified by CCS, was delivered. It brought the number of VLCC ships classified by CCS to 95 (15.23 million GT). The CCS fleet is ranked fourth in the world with a global market share of 11 per cent.
CCS issued the Development Outline of China Classification Society (2021-2050), a three stage strategy towards a "government-trusted, industry-satisfied and international advanced" survey institution.
CCS held the 5G+intelligent ship survey video conference, and jointly built the "new survey technology and equipment laboratory" base (Zhejiang) with China Mobile. The research team applied 5G, ad-hoc Network communication, image recognition, AR/VR, UAVs and other technological innovations to ship inspections.
CCS’ "unmanned ship system and key equipment technology laboratory" was approved as a key player in transportation research. Verifying and assessing intelligent ship technology it successfully undertook the "China Unmanned Boat Challenge" which was highly praised by the industry.
CCS held a conference on fighting COVID-19 and global PPE supplies. It went on to buy 35,668 items of protective clothing, 11,488 surgical masks, 2,112 pairs of goggles and 62 protective masks for the General Hospital of the Yangtze River Shipping. As the situation in China stabilized it worked to support the international fight against the virus, buying and deploying 14,300 masks, 105 items of protective clothing and 76 pairs of goggles to overseas institutions.
The launching ceremony and the establishment of the working group of the “ship and marine industry application experimental base of the blockchain technology and data security of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of P.R.C. was held in CCS Mansion. CCS is the leader unit of the team.
The Ship and Marine Technology-Technical Requirements for LNG Filling Dry Coupler (ISO 21593) was officially published. CCS for the first time took a leading role in the development of international standard, making a breakthrough in this field.
CCS issued the first document of compliance for EU MRV CO2 emission by ships.
CCS, for the first time, sent surveyors to the Antarctic to provide emergency inspection services for Xue Long, the Polar Exploration Ship.
Mo Jianhui was appointed as the President of China Classification Society (CCS) and the Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of CCS. Li Changjian was appointed as the Secretary of the Party Committee and the Vice President of CCS. Sun Feng was appointed as the Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of CCS.
CCS Hong Kong Branch, Singapore Branch, Hamburg Branch, Athens Branch, New York Branch, Osaka Branch, Busan Branch and Cape Town Branch were established to replace the Southeast Asia Regional Center, European Center, Northeast Asia Regional Center, America Center to enhance local services and operation efficiency.
CCS released a three-dimensional ship engineering computing software named Compass 3D.
CCS SSMIS2018, a ship service management system designed for full-lifecycle management of ships and offshore mobile facilities from plan approval to product survey, construction and operation, was put into trial operation.
CCS published its first Rules for Construction of Ocean-going Steel Fishing Vessels (2018).
CCS fully took over the statutory survey and certification to ships, marine products and equipment in the specified regions under the responsibility of Guangdong and Heilongjiang Maritime Safety Administrations.
CCS officially took over and started performing statutory survey of ocean-going fishing vessels and marine products of fishing vessels.

CCS assumed the chairmanship of IACS
the 96th IMO Maritime Safety Committee (MSC 96) meeting announced CCS construction rules for bulk carriers and tankers was met MSC’s aim and functional requirements of GBS for bulk carriers and tankers.
Seatrade Awards 2016 was held in London. CCS was presented “Special Contribution Award”.

CCS Rules for LNG Bunkering Ship came into force
CCS granted 40000DWT bulk carrier “Zhen Zhu Hai” of COSCO Bulk Carrier Co., LTD the EOM class notation“Online Comprehensive Monitoring of Ship Energy Efficiency”. It was the first time that CCS issued this type of class notation.
CCS presented to MAN the first EIAPP certificate compliant with IMO TIER III emission requirements, and the world’s first AIP certificate for medium-speed diesel Selective Catalytic Reduction system (SCR system).
the National Awards for Science and Technology Conference 2014 was held in Beijing. The “semi-submersible drilling platform ‘Hai Yang Shi You 981’” research and application project in which CCS is a main completion unit won the special prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award.

As directed by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, Chinese Embassy in Greece launched the action of finding and leasing a ferry in Greece to go to Libya and evacuate the Chinese nationals. CCS quickly started the emergency plan, actively supported the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Transport, and deployed CCS overseas offices and manpower to start coordination and arrangements for the work of safely evacuating Chinese nationals.
