On March 12, the 500-seat carbon fiber diesel-electric hybrid high-speed passenger ship “XIN MING ZHU VI” was successfully launched. It was surveyed by China Classification Society (CCS) and constructed by Guangdong Sinoway Composite Materials Co. Ltd. (Sinoway). The successful launch of the ship indicates that Hong Kong’s first 500-seat carbon fiber diesel-electric hybrid high-speed passenger ship is about to be launched. Chu Kong Shipping Enterprises(Holding)Co., Ltd., New World First Ferry Services Limited, CSSC Guangzhou Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd., Yuexing Marine Supplies Co., Ltd., the 712nd Research Institute of China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation, the 725th Research Institute of China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation, CCS, etc. were invited to attend the ceremony.
“XIN MING ZHU VI”, 44.7m long, 11m wide and 3.65m deep, having a service speed of 26 knots and a maximum passenger capacity of 500 seats, is a high-speed passenger ship built by advanced carbon fiber composite materials, which has diesel engine battery hybrid power. In pure electric power mode, the ship can sail continuously for about 21 nautical miles at a speed of 10 knots, fully meeting the environmental requirements of zero emission areas in Victoria Harbour. This means that when the ship navigates in and out of Victoria Port, it can be fully propelled with pure electric power mode, thereby achieving “zero” emissions of pollutants, and minimizing pollution to the port and city to the greatest extent possible. Currently, as the most complex hybrid passenger ship in the Asia-Pacific region, this ship is integrated with new materials, new energy, and new hybrid form, and will provide a demonstration application of green energy conservation and environmental protection for the development of water transportation in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
As the first diesel-electric hybrid high-speed passenger ship built by Sinoway, “XIN MING ZHU VI” is also the first ship carried with power batteries of Sinoway in its ship type design. In the early stage of type design of this ship, the CCS Guangzhou Plan Approval Center, together with Nansha Survey Station of CCS Guangzhou Branch, carried out multiple technical discussions with Sinoway to help it understand the relevant CCS guidelines and solve various problems in the ship design and construction process. With the joint efforts of all parties, “XIN MING ZHU VI” achieved a phased victory in construction and was successfully launched.
In the future, CCS will continue to provide customer service and technical support to Sinoway to ensure on-time delivery of “XIN MING ZHU VI” with excellent quality and quantity.
