On March 4, 2024, the steel cutting ceremony of of 174000m3 LNG carrier H1909A of PetroChina International Co., Ltd. was held at Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd. This carrier is the second series of carrier in the LNG Phase III project of COSCO and PetroChina International Co., Ltd. and also the first single class large LNG carrier of China Classification Society (CCS). Guo Jianjun, Deputy General Manager of CCS Shanghai Branch, was invited to attend this ceremony.

This carrier is the fourth generation “Changxing series” large LNG carrier independently developed by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd., which has full intellectual property rights. This carrier, 295m long, 45m wide, 26.25m wide, having a speed of 19.5 knots, adopts the world’s latest generation of dual fuel low-speed propulsion power system, with a daily fuel consumption within 100 tons. It can operate in either gas or fuel mode, meeting the sulfur oxide emission regulations and nitrogen oxide emission TIERIII regulations in MARPOL Annex VI.

Since the construction of the first home-built large LNG carrier “Dapeng Sun”, CCS Shanghai Branch has participated in the construction survey of more than 30 large thin film LNG carriers, and gradually established a well-equipped and technologically-advanced survey team, winning unanimous recognition from shipowners and shipyards with its high-quality survey services. The commencement of this single class project marks another milestone in the development of CCS LNG carriers,  making a significant contribution to the development of CCS. By upholding the national strategy of being strong in transportation, maritime and energy, CCS will make unremitting efforts, accumulate knowledge, and continuously improve its survey capabilities to pay tribute to the “two sessions” with its breakthrough in single class LNG carrier.
