Successful Opening of CCS 2023 Green Marine Technology Seminar

Marintec China 2023, regarded as an indicator of the maritime industry trends, was held offline at Shanghai New International Expo Centre after a period of 4 years. Sun Feng, president of China Classification Society (CCS), attended the exhibition with his delegation, and vice president Fan Qiang introduced the application of CCS’s green, intelligence, and digital technologies on ships, as well as the achievements on shipping safety, industry data interconnection, etc.

On the second day of the Marintec 2023, CCS Marine Green Technology Seminar 2023 was held successfully.

CCS held the 2023 Green Marine Technology Seminar on the morning of December 6. CCS vice president Zhao Yan, General Manager Wu Yunxiang of CSSC Silent Electric System (Wuxi) Technology Co., Ltd., vice president Li Lu of Shanghai Merchant Ship Design & Research Institute, deputy director Deng Aimin of China Ship Development and Design Center, technical director Deng Chaofeng of Shandong Shipping Corporation, deputy general manager Yu Youfa of SPIC Shanghai Qiyuanxin Power Technology Co., Ltd., senior engineer Liu Bo of CSSC Power (Group) Corporation Limited, and several experts attended the seminar.

They delivered specialist lectures on green technologies, including the applications of marine ammonia fuel technology and green ammonia supply, advanced technology and equipment for new energy ships, prospects of marine nuclear power for civil use, onboard carbon capture system (OCCS), marine methanol fuel industry chain technology, response strategies of shipping companies under international decarbonization goals, construction of green fuel industry chain, low-carbon/zero carbon fuel power plant technology, etc., which attracted extensive attention from the industry.

Major Topics by CCS

Applications of Marine Ammonia Fuel Technology  and Green Ammonia Supply

The topic discussed the major risks and key technologies of ships using ammonia fuel, provided the ship type solutions based on risk response, and briefly introduced the preparation and supply status of green ammonia.

Onboard Carbon Capture System (OCCS)

The topic mainly introduced the development status and application challenges of OCCS based on the principles and applications of onboard carbon capture technology, as well as CCS Guidelines for Onboard Carbon Capture System on board ships. It also shared the concerns about the application of OCCS in different ships.

CCS Released Service Products

Comprehensive Assessment System for Marine Clean Energy and Integrated Service System for Greenhouse Gas Emission from Ships

These systems will provide reference and support to the industry and customers on comprehensive analysis and decision-making of alternative fuels, sustainable supply and refueling of green fuels, joint compliance strategies for fleet carbon emissions, and greenhouse gas emission control for ships and so on.

It is worth mentioning that the National Engineering Research Center of Electric Vehicles of Beijing Institute of Technology and CCS Wuhan Rules&Research Institute signed a cooperation agreement on lithium battery-powered ships, which will help both parties to better give full play to their advantages of resources, carry out close cooperation in the technology development and market promotion of battery-powered ships, and work together to promote the development of the new energy shipbuilding industry.
