China Classification Society-Surveyed 88,000 m3 VLGC “CHANG PING YUAN” Named and Delivered

The 88,000 m3 very large gas carrier (VLGC) “CHANG PING YUAN”, surveyed by China Classification Society (CCS), was named and delivered at COSCO SHIPPING (Qidong) Offshore Co., Ltd. recently. Mr. Ju Liqiang, General Manager of CCS International Survey Business Department, together with relevant officials from CCS Jiangsu Branch, attended the ceremony.

“CHANG PING YUAN” is the first domestically designed and built VLGC under the Chinese flag. With an overall length of 229.9 meters and a design speed of 16.5 knots, the vessel is fitted with four independent Type A cargo tanks and two 300 m3 deck tanks. Adopting an innovative plumb stem design, complemented by energy-saving ducts and a rudder bulb, the ship achieves improved sailing performance. Equipped with an LPG dual?fuel main engine and shaft generator, it meets stringent emission regulations while delivering sound operational economy. The vessel is outfitted with an intelligent ship system and complies with requirements of CCS intelligent ship notation i-ship (N,M,E,I), demonstrating China’s leading technological capabilities in green and intelligent liquefied gas carriers. Furthermore, the ship is designed for ammonia cargo transport compatibility, opening broad prospects for the waterborne carriage of low?carbon fuels.

Since project initiation, CCS has leveraged its full technical expertise by organizing multiple expert workshops and conducting in?depth technical discussions jointly with the shipowner and shipyard, providing end?to?end technical support ranging from preliminary model approval to detailed design review. During construction, the on-site survey team of CCS worked in close coordination with the shipowner and shipyard. Through professional, rigorous, efficient and pragmatic survey services, the team underpinned the quality of vessel construction and navigational safety, facilitating new breakthroughs for China’s high-end liquid cargo shipbuilding sector.
