Recently, China's first domestically-built 16,136 TEU methanol dual-fuel container ship "COSCO SHIPPING YANGPU" and the nation's inaugural hydrogen-electric tug "QING DIAN TUO 1" were successfully delivered, injecting green vitality into the industry.

Recently, China's first domestically-built 16,136 TEU methanol dual-fuel container ship "COSCO SHIPPING YANGPU" and the nation's inaugural hydrogen-electric tug "QING DIAN TUO 1" were successfully delivered, injecting green vitality into the industry. The Jiangsu Branch of China Classification Society (CCS) strictly monitored the entire process to ensure both "zero-carbon" and "high-efficiency" compliance. This achievement plays a pivotal role in advancing low-carbon shipping transformation, delivering a "green report card" for the 2025 Energy Conservation Promotion Week.

China'sIntelli-made, leading the way

“COSCO SHIPPING YANGPU”, constructed by Yangzhou COSCO Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. for COSCO Shipping Container Lines Limited, has achieved a Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) meeting Phase III standards. This design reduces carbon emissions by approximately 8.9% and represents a 52.8% reduction compared to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) baseline. The successful delivery of this vessel marks three historic milestones in China's large-scale methanol dual-fuel container ship construction: "the first order from a domestic shipowner," "the first delivery by a Chinese shipyard," and "the first practical application of domestically produced methanol engines."

The green tide surges and"the hydrogen" unveils the future

The "QING DIAN TUO 1" was designed and built by Zhenjiang Shipyard (Group) Co., Ltd. for Shandong Port Qingdao Port Tug Co., Ltd. Equipped with a hybrid system combining hydrogen fuel cells and liquid-cooled lithium batteries, this vessel achieves zero carbon emissions. With a 9-knot speed and over 12 hours of endurance, it delivers a towing capacity of 82 tons, making it the largest-horsepower port tug in China with the highest lithium battery capacity.

During the project, CCS Jiangsu Branch attaches great importance to it, carefully organizes and coordinates the experts within the CCS system to provide technical services for shipowners and shipyards in the process of vessel plan approval  and inspection, continuously builds the brand image of CCS, and helps the shipping industry to transform and develop green, low-carbon and intelligent.
