CCS has developed the Guidelines for Hull Structure of Double Side Skin Bulk Carriers (2004) to address the needs of design, construction and survey of hull structure of double side skin bulk carriers. The Guidelines, based on relevant requirements in CCS?Rules and Regulations for the Construction and Classification of Sea-Going Steel Ships, provide supplementary provisions for hull structure of such ships and contain mainly the following:

1.       Applicable requirements in CCS?Rules and Regulations for the Construction and Classification of Sea-Going Steel Ships for bulk carriers;

2.       Supplementary special requirements for double side skin;

3.       Latest applicable requirements of IACS UR and IMO, i.e. IACS UR S1A, S21, S25 and S28, amendments in December 2002 to SOLAS regulation II-1/3-6 on access to and within spaces in the cargo area of oil tankers and bulk carriers adopted by resolution MSC.134(76) and technical provisions for means of access for inspections adopted by resolution MSC.133(76)

The Guidelines are applicable to design, construction and survey of cargo area structure of double side skin bulk carriers of 90 meters in length and upwards, with machinery spaces situated at the aft end and with single deck, double bottom, topside and hopper tanks.
