Recent reports by People’s Daily and CCTV on the delivery of China’s first 100,000-ton smart salmon farming vessel 'Su Hai No. 1' have sparked heated public discussion—heralding an era of 'affordable sashimi'!
'Su Hai 1' is the first large-scale intelligent aquaculture vessel built by China Shipbuilding Huangpu Wenchong Ship Co., Ltd. for Jiangsu Lianshen Marine Technology Co., Ltd. It was designed by the Fisheries Machinery and Instrumentation Institute of the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences, and was classed and surveyed by China Classification Society (CCS).
'Suhai No.1' is a self-propelled enclosed aquaculture vessel classed by the CCS in compliance with the 'Technical Code for Offshore Mobile Platforms 2023' and 'Inspection Code for Offshore Mobile Platforms 2023' issued by the Maritime Safety Administration of China's Ministry of Transport. Measuring 249.8 meters in length, this vessel features 15 compartments designed for closed-culture salmon farming. With its exceptional navigation capabilities, it can be relocated to different sea areas to provide optimal growth conditions for salmon populations.
The construction of this aquaculture vessel presented significant challenges, primarily due to its complex structure, numerous advanced equipment components, and extensive use of specialized materials. In addressing these difficulties, the Nansha Survey Department of CCS Guangzhou Branch collaborated closely with shipowners and manufacturers. By prioritizing high-quality inspection services and technical support tailored to clients' needs, while focusing on key requirements such as fishery compatibility, smart technologies, and cost-effectiveness, the department enhanced coordination between construction and design review processes. This ensured timely completion of all critical construction milestones, earning unanimous recognition from both shipowners and manufacturers.
'Suhai 1' is the result of the deep integration of Marine fishery breeding technology and ship ocean engineering technology, and a practical exploration of the new quality productivity of the industry. The smooth delivery of the ship marks that China has entered a new era of salmon deep-sea breeding.
