On June 15, 2022, the ceremony of issuing the certificate of type approval for the first 120 kW marine hydrogen fuel cell power system in China was held in Ningbo, Zhejiang. China Classification Society (CCS) granted the certificate of type approval to SPIC Hydrogen Energy Co., Ltd. Attendees of the issuance ceremony included relevant leaders and honored guests from SPIC Hydrogen Energy Co., Ltd., SPIC Ningbo Green Power Hydrogen Energy Technology Institute, Ningbo Green Power Fuel Cell Co., Ltd., and CCS Zhejiang Branch. Mr. Yang Zheng, The Deputy General Manager of CCS Zhejiang Branch, was present at the activity and delivered a speech.
In the speech, Mr. Yang pointed out that, in the context of global carbon reduction, it has become a developing trend that ships have low-carbon emission or even zero-carbon emission. Hydrogen energy is an ideal fuel of the shipping “decarbonization” technology. The effects including the high energy utilization rate, zero emission and high ship comfort level can be achieved through the application of the hydrogen fuel cell propulsion technology in ships. Therefore, hydrogen fuel cells are ideal power for green ships. The approved hydrogen fuel cell power system of the SPIC Hydrogen Energy Co., Ltd. is the first 120 kW marine hydrogen fuel cell power system in China, opening a new chapter for the application of hydrogen energy in the ship technology field.
Responding to the national strategy of “carbon peaking and carbon neutrality” (“double carbon”) and industrial demands, CCS has always been working on the study of the technologies related to alternative fuels. CCS issued successively the Guidelines for Ships Using Fuel Cell Systems, the Guidelines for Ships Using Alternative Fuels, the Provisional Regulations of Technology and Inspection for Ships Powered by Hydrogen Fuel, the Guidelines for Hydrogen Fuel Cells, Hydrogen Cylinderand Reforming Unit, etc., representing another remarkable achievement of CCS in its implementation of national new energy strategy.
The issuance of the certificate marked a key breakthrough obtained by CCS in making contributions in localizing China’s core new energy equipment. It is also a successful example of the efforts made jointly by CCS and the industrial community in implementing the new development concept, serving for the new development pattern, responding to the policy of energy saving and emission reduction, assisting the implementation of China’s goal of “double carbon”, as well as promoting the high-quality development of the marine product manufacturing industry.
The FCPS-S120 marine hydrogen fuel cell power system of SPIC Hydrogen Energy has a rated power 120 kW and an output voltage 450 V - 750 V. Its shell protection grade is IP67, and all its core components are designed and made in China with the independent controllability of core technologies. Additionally, the equipment meets the requirements of the latest Regulation and guidelines. Since the startup of the type approval project, CCS Zhejiang Branch has been working at the project’s front line, made technological exchanges frequently to expound the flow and technical regulations of type approval and to provide technical solutions, and fulfilled efficiently the approval task.
In the issuance ceremony, Wang Xue’e, the Deputy General Manager of Ningbo Institute, and Chai Maorong, the Chief Technology Officer of SPIC Hydrogen Energy, gave speeches, respectively. They extended their appreciation to CCS for its positive support in applying SPIC’s expanded products in the marine field, and expressed their hope for further cooperation with CCS to make contributions in fulfilling the national goal of “double carbon”.
In the ceremony, SPIC Hydrogen Energy Co., Ltd. presented a silk banner to CCS to show its appreciation for the rigorous work and efficient quality service of CCS.
