The "Guidelines for Fatigue Strength Assessment Based on Fracture Mechanics Methodology" aim to provide recommendations and regulations for fatigue analysis methods based on fracture mechanics theory. This guide is applicable to the fatigue strength assessment of typical details, with load calculations using either the Equivalent Design Wave method or Spectral Analysis method. It can be used to address issues related to fatigue strength assessment of ultra-thick plate structures, as well as the evaluation of crack propagation for leakage analysis in Type B independent liquid cargo compartments of liquefied gas ships.

The guidelines are developed based on theoretical analysis of ship structures, validation experiments, and verification studies of full-scale ship calculation. As a supplementary and supportive tool for fatigue strength calculations using the S-N curve method (based on fracture mechanics), this guide is employed in design when the detail type cannot match the standard S-N curve or when existing regulations explicitly require the use of fracture mechanics for fatigue assessment. In such cases, fatigue strength analysis for the detail can be conducted based on these guidelines.
