China Classification Society (CCS) Shanghai Branch awarded a Statement of Compliance (SoC) for carbon footprint of ship repairing for the container ship “QING YUN HE”, first of its kind in China, to COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. on September 11th. Mr. Pan Yu, General Manager of COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., Mr. Yang Zheng, General Manager of CCS Shanghai Branch, and relevant representatives from both sides attended the ceremony.

Mr. Pan Yu expressed gratitude for the long-standing professional technical support provided by CCS and outlined the company’s business operations and layout. He stated that the yard would further deepen exchanges and collaboration with CCS, focus on low-carbon development and intelligent manufacturing, continuously upgrade its ship repairing, conversion capability and technical services, and actively respond to the green transition requirements of the shipping industry.

Reviewing cooperation achievements between the two parties over the years, Mr. Yang Zheng thanked the partner for its support. He noted that the industry is accelerating its green transition, and low-carbon and intelligent practices in shipbuilding, repairing and conversion have become key priorities. CCS will further deepen cooperation with COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. in low-carbon technology and intelligent manufacturing, continuously improve the green management of ships throughout their life cycle, and provide solid technical support for the sustainable development of shipping industry.

Awarding this SoC represents a major achievement of collaborative innovation between the two sides and serves as a vivid example of CCS’s efforts to advance the “Dual Carbon” goals within the maritime sector. Focused on carbon footprint accounting during the ship repairing, the statement will bring standardization and transparency to carbon emission management in this phase. It offers a reference sample to green assessment and low-carbon control across the maritime supply chain and explores a replicable practical pathway for carbon footprint management within the ship repairing sector.
