On July 10, China Classification Society (CCS) was invited to attend the 2026 China Maritime Day Seminar on Green and Smart Services for Maritime Development, held in Yangzhou, Jiangsu, under the theme “Green Energy, Smart Connections”. CCS Vice President Mr. Wang Hongwei delivered a speech titled “Analysis of Low-Carbon Trends in Maritime under the EU and IMO”, offering an in-depth interpretation of the latest trends and response strategies for international Maritime decarbonization.

Speech Highlights

In his speech, Wang focused on introducing the international maritime greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction rules and institutional frameworks, covering their impacts, progress, and key constituent elements. He stressed that we are currently in a critical window for international rule-making, and the requirements and standards formulated during this period will directly shape the technological roadmap and industrial landscape for the next 10 to 15 years.

CCS Strategy and Actions

Wang stated that CCS will proactively harness its technical strengths and work closely with other stakeholders to further refine calculation and verification methods of fuel GHG intensity, methodologies for the life-cycle GHG assessment of green fuel. At the same time, CCS supports accelerating the establishment of a comprehensive fuel certification schemes that covers all essential dimensions—carbon intensity, sustainability, and chain of custody—so as to facilitate the green transition of international maritime industry.

The seminar brought together stakeholders from the entire value chain, including government, enterprises, industry associations, academia, and research institutes, to engage in in-depth exchanges on low-carbon transition and related topics. Grounded in the broader industry perspective, CCS continues to participate deeply in the formulation of international maritime rules, empowering high-quality industrial development through specialized technical expertise, and providing reliable technical solutions for the green, smart, and sustainable transformation of the maritime sector.
