China Classification Society (CCS) is proud to
announce the successful completion of the major conversion project –
transforming the 82,000 dwt bulk carrier Guang Qi De Er Ta into a 3,607
TEU container ship. The vessel was delivered on 10 June 2026 at Zhoushan Xinya
Shipyard Co., Ltd., following a six?month intensive retrofit launched in
January.
CCS’s role from start to finish
This project entailed extensive structural
modifications to the hull, a complete redesign of the cargo hold arrangement,
and the fitting of an entirely new container lashing system, all carried out
with the highest industry standards of precision and compliance.

CCS team
tackled multiple industry?wide bottlenecks, including large-block
modification, high?precision structural alignment, and coordinated system
adaptation. They also ensured that all newly effective regulatory requirements
were fully implemented, all within a compressed six?month schedule – with zero
concessions to safety and quality standards.
Industry recognition
The successful handover of this conversion fully
attests to CCS’s solid technical prowess, rigorous quality management system,
and responsive, efficient service. It also yields valuable, proven, and
replicable experience for future large?scale vessel conversions.
The project has garnered widespread international
recognition – multiple maritime industry publications, including TradeWinds,
recently have covered this conversion as part of a rising trend of bulk
carrier-to-container ship projects, fueled by strong container market
fundamentals and the strategic investment initiatives of Chinese owners.
Looking ahead
CCS stays steadfast in backing innovative ship
conversion and newbuilding projects with world?class technical services. We
will continue to strengthen our survey competence, digital technologies, and
regulatory proficiency to support our global partners through the ongoing
shifts in energy landscapes and shipping markets.
