The China Classification Society (CCS) Mediterranean Committee Meeting 2026 convened in Athens, bringing together over 60 members and guests from shipping companies, industry associations, financial institutions and flag states across Greece and Cyprus.

The China Classification Society (CCS) Mediterranean Committee Meeting 2026 convened in Athens, bringing together over 60 members and guests from shipping companies, industry associations, financial institutions and flag states across Greece and Cyprus.

Special guests: H.E. Mr. Fang Qiu, Chinese Ambassador to Greece, and Mr. Zhao Yali, former Chinese Ambassador to Cyprus, were invited to attend and deliver remarks.

The meeting was chaired by Ms. Marielena Procopiou, Vice Chairwoman of CCS Mediterranean Committee, with Mr. George Procopiou, Chairman of the Committee, Mr. John Tzoannos, former Secretary General of the Greek Ministry of Mercantile Marine, and Mr. Zhongyi (John) Su, Vice Chairman of the Committee in attendance.

Key topics: CCS shared its latest developments and showcased how technological innovation and full-lifecycle services are driving China-Greece shipping cooperation. Presentations and discussions covered green and smart shipping, tech innovation, and Mediterranean maritime collaboration — underscoring the Committee's role as a technical bridge and business platform.

Participants shared practical insights on current technical pathways and operational challenges, and expressed strong willingness to deepen collaboration.

Looking ahead: As a vital hub for global shipping, the Mediterranean remains central to CCS's international network. CCS will continue to deepen international technical cooperation, leverage its technical advantages and service capabilities, and expand collaboration with regional partners.


New exchange platform: On the same day, the China-Greece Maritime Day & North Bund Forum Athens Promotion Session was jointly held by the Organizing Committee Office of the North Bund Forum and CCS.

Also during the event: CCS was invited to attend the unveiling ceremony of the China State Shipbuilding Corporation’s (CSSC) Greece Representative Office and the “Poseidon China Night”, and held productive meetings with key clients across the Mediterranean to build trust and advance practical cooperation.
