Recently, the naming and delivery ceremony for 174,000 m3 LNG carriers with membrane-type cargo tanks "Mihazem" and "Dongshani" for the Qatar Energy project was held in Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd.. Hong Bo, Director of the International Classification Service Development Department of China Classification Society (CCS), attended the ceremony.
The two vessels built in Hudong-Zhonghua shipyard are the 8th and 9th LNG carriers for Qatar Energy, marking the first batch delivered to Malaysia International Shipping Company. As the fifth-generation LNG carriers (known as "Changheng" series) , they feature cutting-edge twin-skeg line with advanced low-carbon technologies and digital systems, combining innovative design concepts with superior technical specifications and eco-friendly performance. These vessels boast exceptional speed, low energy consumption, excellent low-temperature performance, versatile cargo compatibility, lightweight hulls, high cargo capacity, smart operational systems, and optimal route adaptability.
During the ceremony, the shipowner and shipyard highly praised the CCS surveyor for their outstanding service in this project and expressed sincere gratitude. During plan approval phase, experts from CCS Shanghai Rules and Research Institute completed comprehensive assessments including: verifying longitudinal beam strength and component specifications, evaluating direct calculation of cabin segment yield and buckling resistance, conducting fatigue strength evaluations, and performing advanced LNG carrier analyses such as whole-ship strength assessments, fatigue spectrum analysis, and pump tower vibration evaluations.
In recent years, CCS Shanghai Branch has completed inspections for over 40 LNG carriers, earning widespread recognition from clients home and abroad. The on-site project team will maintain professional dedication, uphold high-quality inspection serviceand provide more efficient technical support to shipyards and shipowners, and ensure smooth delivery of subsequent vessels.
