On November 4, 2024, the annual meeting of the Hong Kong---Macau Regional Committee of China Classification Society (CCS) was successfully held in Hong Kong. The representatives and guests from Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, and Thailand in terms of government agencies, shipping companies, financial leasing institutions, ship management companies, etc. attended the conference. 

Wang Yongxin, Chairman of CCS Hong Kong---Macau Regional Committee and General Manager of China Merchants Energy Shipping Co., Ltd., delivered the opening speech. Wang Yongxin stated that with the continuous upgrading of international and regional regulations on shipping greenhouse gas emissions reduction, it is imperative to achieve low-carbon transformation of the shipping industry. CCS has fully leveraged its technological advantages and conducted extensive research on green, low-carbon, energy-saving, and emission reduction by closely focusing on ship intelligence, alternative fuel applications, etc., providing strong technical support for the development of the industry. Faced with new challenges, China Merchants Energy Shipping Co., Ltd. has taken the lead in developing the “Shipping Merchants ESG Standards” based on international best practices and combined with the actual situation of the shipping industry by upholding the guiding concept of “green shipping driven by innovation, technology-leading for transformation and upgrading”; at the same time, CCS calls on industry colleagues to strengthen cooperation, leverage their respective advantages in green technology, digital technology, etc., and work together to provide suggestions for the green and intelligent development of the shipping industry. 

At the meeting, the guest speakers delivered wonderful reported on green new energy and intelligent digital technology. Mr. Qin Aohan, Technical Manager of CCS Overseas Technology Center, shared the current development status of green fuel supply chain in China and looked into the future; Mr. Zhang Zhuo, Deputy Director of the Innovation Center of Shanghai Merchant Ship Design  & Research Institute (SDARI), introduced the current development process and future trends of green and intelligent ships; Mr. Zhuang Zhanting, Deputy General Manager of the CATL Shipbuilding Division, shared the practice and future development trends of electric propulsion ships. 

Fan Qiang, General Manager of CCS Hong Kong Branch presented the “2024 Development Report”.  He stated that CCS has made a historic breakthrough with ships surveyed exceeding 200MGT, which is an important milestone in the development of CCS. At the same time, CCS has also made significant progress in the industrial business, with increasing international influence. These achievements cannot be made without the trust and support of all guests. In the future development, CCS will continue to strengthen comprehensive and multi-level cooperation with industry colleagues, fully leverage its technological advantages in green, low-carbon, digital intelligence, etc., and collaborate with all parties in the industry to promote the intelligent, low-carbon and high-quality development of the shipping industry.
