Official Debut! The Scientific Research Vessel “JI DI” Was Successfully Delivered
On June 24, a
naming and delivery ceremony was held for the scientific research ship “JI DI”
at Guangzhou Shipyard International Company Limited, which was surveyed by
China Classification Society (CCS), and Zhou Liwei, Deputy General Manager of
CCS Guangzhou Branch, was invited to attend the ceremony.
The scientific
research vessel “JI DI”, 89.95m long, 17.8m wide, 8.2m deep, having a design
speed of 15 knots and an endurance of 14,000 nautical miles, can meet the
navigation needs of unlimited navigation areas, with a single supply to
guarantee the living of 60 people at sea for 80 days.

This vessel is
equipped with an ice-breaking bow and featured additional marks including “Ice Breaker”, “PC 6”, “ACC-POLAR (-30 ℃)”, “Underwater Noise 2”, etc.
As a new
generation of polar scientific research vessel independently designed and constructed
by China, this vessel adopts a full-rotary electric propulsion system and is
equipped with a channel-type lateral thrust, dynamic positioning system, and
anti-rolling system. Featuring underwater radiation noise that meets the
requirements of ‘Underwater Noise 2’, it is also the first ship that was
awarded the additional mark of “Polar Service Temperature to -30 ℃” by CCS. With its bow designed to break through 1.0
meter of the current year’s ice, and designed service temperature of as low as -30 ℃, it can cooperate with various marine
survey equipment to undertake comprehensive observation and investigation tasks
of sea ice, three-dimensional water bodies, geophysics, atmosphere, and other
marine environment. It also has ice rescue and summer polar sea scientific
exploration capabilities while being used for monitoring and investigating the
marine environment in ice areas.
During the
construction process of the “JI DI” vessel, the Nansha Inspection Department of
CCS Guangzhou Branch has closely cooperated with the shipowner and the
shipyard. According to the requirements of the “Guidelines for New Shipbuilding
Project Management”, before starting construction, it has actively assisted the
shipyard in sorting out the products that need to meet the low-temperature
requirements based on the characteristics of the vessel and in combination with
the “Guidelines for Polar Ship”, and established a production plan oriented
tracking table to track the certification of 29 products that need to meet the
low-temperature requirements.
During the
construction process, CCS has actively cooperated with the production and
successfully guaranteed the key nodes such as alignment & observation,
mooring test, inclination test, navigation test, etc. During this period, CCS
has also collaborated with the shipyard and the supplier to solve key technical
problems such as propeller noise to ensure successful delivery of the vessel.
The launch of the
“JI DI” vessel will further enhance China’s capability to prevent and reduce
marine disasters such as sea ice, enrich China’s ice region research system,
facilitate the comprehensive survey and investigation of polar oceans, sea ice,
atmosphere, etc., and advance China’s ice region research towards serialization
and diversification.
