RULES FOR MATERIALS AND WELDING 2024 AMENDMENTS

The 2024 Amendments to the Rules for Materials and Welding will take effect on 1 July 2024.

 

The 2024 Amendments are based on the analysis and study of CCS on the application of the unified requirements of IACS in the past year and the feedback from the users of the Rules.

 

Main contents of the revisions are as follows:

PART One

1. Revising the technical requirements for hull structural steel pipes.

2. Revising the technical requirements for impact tests for steel forgings for crankshafts.

3. Adding technical requirements for wide scale friction stir welded aluminum alloy stiffened plates.

 

PART Two

1. Revising approval requirements for foam core materials.

2. Revising the requirements for the basic conditions of laminating premises for fiber-reinforced plastic hull materials.

3. Revising the relevant provisions of marine plastic pipes to harmonize with the requirements of the Rules for Classification of Sea-going Steel Ships.

 

PART Three

1. Revising 9Ni steel welding consumables deposited metal strength requirements.

2. Adding welding consumables approval requirements for manual TIG welding.

3. Revising impact test sampling requirements for approval of welding procedures for austenitic stainless steel.

4. Adding the requirements for sampling of catamarans for non-destructive testing .
