A few days ago, Maritime Reporter & Engineering News, a well-known international shipping magazine, released the list of "Great Ships of 2022”. A total of 13 new ships are on the list this year, built by 13 shipyards in 7 countries.

Two Chinese ships: the Zero-emission Supercapacitor electric ferry M/V “Xin Sheng Tai” and the world's first LNG dual-fuel VLCC M/V “Yuan Rui Yang” are on the list and they are both classed by China Classification Society (CCS).

Ships on the list of “Great Ships of 2022” classed by CCS

M/V “Xin Sheng Tai”

M/V “Xin Sheng Tai” is the first application of supercapacitor in the field of green ships. Compared with traditional lithium-ion battery powered equipment, supercapacitor system has advantages of short charging time, long cycle life, low levels of noise and vibration, energy-saving & environment friendliness, zero emission, easy operation and so on, With distinctive characteristics of the times.

As it is the first time to apply the supercapacitor system as main  power designed for the car-passenger ferry , CCS has actively explored and verified the short-circuit current simulation and coordinated protection test of ship supercapacitor DC grid topology on board. CCS’s contributions has ensured the safety and reliability of the ship's power grid, and has successfully completed the construction inspection for M/V “Xin Sheng Tai”.

M/V “Yuan Rui Yang”

M/V “Yuan Rui Yang” has attracted great attention across the industry since its construction started. CCS had a deep collaboration with relative parties in both stages of technological research and on-site inspection, jointed efforts has brought a remarkable achievements in technical innovation and applications in real ships.

According to the characteristics of the project, CCS established the most  knowledgeable team to carry out an effective project management and an inventive inspection procedure. Experts conducted a comprehensive review in relative risks, technologies, regulations, services, practices that are involved in LNG dual fuel powered ships and corrosion resistant steel applications by applying a full supply chain and inspection service for regulations, drawing approval, construction, products, etc. Therefore, the shipyards and shipowners received ultimate helps in technology research and development, plan approval and inspection, support and warranty, risk management and so on.
