PACIFIC PROSPECT, a 62,000 DWT multi-purpose heavy lift ship, was delivered successfully on April 22, 2022.

PACIFIC PROSPECT, a 62,000 DWT multi-purpose heavy lift ship, was delivered successfully on April 22, 2022. Its plan approval and survey during construction were fulfilled by China Classification Society (CCS). Affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, the interested parties, including China Merchants Energy Shipping Co., Ltd., China Merchants Industry Holding Co., Ltd. and CCS Jiangsu Branch, held the ceremony for “cloud” naming and ship delivery in Shenzhen and Yangzhou, simultaneously.

“PACIFIC PROSPECT” was the No.2 ship of the four 62,000 DWT multi-purpose heavy lift ships built by China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Nanjing) Co., Ltd. for Hong Kong Ming WAH Shipping Co., Ltd. It was classed by CCS .

Shanghai Merchant Ship Design and Research Institute (SDARI) led the design of those 62,000 DWT multi-purpose heavy lift ships. This ship has a length 199.9 m, molded breadth 32.26 m, molded depth 19.0 m, design draft 11.30 m, and design speed 14.4 knots. The ship is designed with CFD optimized mold lines, set up with five cargo tanks, and erected four cranes at the portside, which have a maximum union lift capacity of 300 tons. Thus, it can load flexibly large heavy equipment cargoes, pulp cargoes, and various solid bulks with different dimensions.

The ship is equipped with energy-saving and environment-friendly components, including large-diameter propellers and low-rotation-speed G engines; hence, it is able to meet the international standards of ship Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) PHASE 3 and the Nox Tier emission requirements. Installed with the “energy efficiency management system”, the ship is one of the state-of-the-art, environment-friendly and energy-efficient multi-purpose heavy lift ships.

During the stage of shipbuilding, although the commuting between Nanjing and Yangzhou was blocked due to the pandemic, the field marine surveyors of the Yizheng Jinling Project Group of CCS Jiangsu Branch devoted themselves completely to the work to ensure the smooth operation. They were stationed at the shipyard for more than one month, worked seven days a week, and positively coordinated with the shipyard in work. The Building and Marine Engineering Division of the CCS Jiangsu Branch also paid great importance to the work. The Director and two guiding marine surveyors of the Division provided guidance at the frontline, and stuck to the frontline to fight against the pandemic with joint efforts.

Both the shipowners and shipyard spoke highly of CCS marine surveyors’ excellent professional technologies, as well as their rigorous work style and attitude, and thanked them for the technological support and services provided by CCS all the time.
