On April 22, 2022, China Classification Society (CCS) hosted the “Cloud Certificate Issuance” for high-manganese austenitic cryogenic steel series products through the combination of on-line/off-line forms. Mr. Fan Qiang, the Vice President of CCS, attended the “Cloud Certificate Issuance” activity by video and made an online speech in Beijing.

Relevant leaders and honored guests from HBIS Group and Wuyang Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. (HBIS WUSTEEL), CSSC 725th Research Institute (725th Institute), CIMC Enric Holdings Ltd., CIMC Jingmen Hongtu Special Aircraft Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (CIMC Hongtu), DSIC Equipment Manufacture Co., Ltd., Jiangnan Shipyard (Group) Co., Ltd., Nantong CIMC Sino-Pacific Offshore & Engineering Co., Ltd., China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Yangzhou) Dingheng Co., Ltd., Wuhan Chuangxin River-Sea Transportation Co., Ltd., Zhejiang Dongpeng Ship Building and Repairing Co., Ltd., Gloryholder Liquefied Gas Machinery (DL) Co., Ltd. and other related entities participated in the certificate issuance ceremony by video.

Fan Qiang, the vice president of CCS, pointed out in his speech that the Certificates of Works Approval issued to the high-manganese welding steel materials of the 725th Institute, the high-manganese steel sheets of HBIS WUSTEEL and the high-manganese steel storage tanks of CIMC Hongtu were all the first certificates for the products made of the same type of high-manganese austenitic cryogenic steel in China. The certificate issuance marks the successful development and manufacturing of the high-manganese austenitic cryogenic steel made in China, and provides a practical and feasible solution for the material innovation for domestic LNG-powered ships. It is also the successful demonstration of CCS’ cooperation with the industrial community in mastering new development stages, implementing new development principles and services, integrating in new development patterns, and promoting high-quality development.

Wang Qihong, the Director of the 725th Institute, Li Yiren, the Vice General Manager of HBIS Group, and Zheng Zhijun, the General Manager of CIMC Hongtu, attended the certificate issuance ceremony, and made speeches respectively; they all proposed the hope for the work of high-manganese steel projects at the following step.

CCS has its foothold in industrial demands and the technological frontier, and has established the cooperation platform bringing together enterprises, universities, research institutes, inspection entities and end-users. It cooperated with the 725th Institute, HBIS WUSTEEL, CIMC Hongtu and other organizations to establish a joint high-manganese steel development project group. Over the three years, they have overwhelmed a series of technical bottlenecks of high-manganese steel, including the adjustment and control of material performance, development and matching of welding materials and storage tank molding and preparation, manufactured high-manganese cryogenic steel LNG tanks for the first time, and successfully made thousands of kilometers of offshore operating tests for high-manganese steel LNG storage tanks, and issued product standards and application guidance. Thus, they have realized the original innovation of the full industrial chain covering from materials to applications and provided the leading demonstration for the production and application of high-manganese austenitic cryogenic steel in China.
