Survey Scope and Technical Support

This dry-dock repair marked the first time Yiu Lian DockyardsLimited had undertaken a repair and inspection project for an LNG carrier. Given that LNG carrier repairs involve high technical standards, strict process controls, and demanding safety requirements, China Classification Society (CCS) Hong Kong Branch attached great importance to the project. It proactively coordinated with the shipyard, the shipping company, and the crew to implement the repair and inspection guidelines precisely, strictly follow ship repair quality control requirements, and establish a robust quality assurance system for the survey. The survey received strong support from the CCS Overseas Technical Center, whose senior experts traveled to the site to provide technical guidance on reporting and share their expertise. This effectively mitigated technical risks, enhanced the professionalism of the survey, and laid a solid technical foundation for the efficient progress of the task.

Outcome and Experience

The survey lasted 20 days, during which all relevant units coordinated closely to complete all inspection and repair items as scheduled. CCS’s rigorous, pragmatic, and proactive service approach earned unanimous recognition from the shipyard and the shipowner. By successfully completing this LNG carrier dry-dock repair survey and CAP survey, CCS Hong Kong Branch filled a gap in regional practice for similar operations, accumulated valuable experience in technical inspection services, and laid a solid foundation for future surveys of high-end vessel types.
