The naming and delivery ceremony of the 82,000 DWT bulk carrier “FLAMANDS”, for which China Classification Society (CCS) conducted the construction survey, was held in Nantong, Jiangsu Province on September 30, 2026. Senior representatives from CCS Jiangsu Branch were invited to attend the ceremony.
“FLAMANDS” is the final vessel of the 82,000 DWT series bulk carriers built by Nantong Xiangyu Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering Co., Ltd. for Greek company TMS. It is a green eco-friendly Kamsarmax bulk carrier with a length overall of 229.00m and a designed speed of 14.0 knots, flying an EU flag. The vessel is equipped with a pure titanium desulfurization system, a high-pressure Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system, and energy-saving devices, fully complying with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) EEDI Phase 3 requirements.
Throughout the construction survey, CCS site-based project team drew extensively on proven construction and delivery experience from sister vessels in the same series. The team aligned precisely with the Greek shipowner’s needs, integrated deeply into the entire construction management process, proactively identified and mitigated key technical risks, and coordinated cross-stakeholder resources to assist the shipyard in optimizing construction techniques and improving construction efficiency.
To address the challenges of multi-site construction and a tight project schedule, Project Manager Hou Jinshan organized site assessment and certification well in advance. Working jointly with the shipowner and shipyard, the team strengthened production process controls across all construction sites, ensuring high-quality vessel construction and garnering recognition from the shipowner. CCS surveyors remained stationed on the inspection frontline throughout the project, underpinning the smooth delivery of the vessel with professional and efficient technical services.
The successful conclusion of this series project fully demonstrates CCS’s technical strength and service capabilities in ship construction survey. CCS will continue to refine its survey technologies and optimize service models, supporting the construction of more high-quality vessels to higher standards.
