On July 22, the "Seminar on moving full steam ahead to step up comprehensive capability as International Shipping Center" (a.k.a 2025 CCS Council Meeting), hosted by China Classification Society (CCS), was held in Shanghai. Fu Xuyin, Vice Minister of Transport (MOT) of the People’s Republic of China, and Zhang Xiaohong, Vice Mayor of Shanghai Municipal Government, attended and addressed the event. Over 130 representatives from MOT, local government, shipping companies and research institutions gathered to discuss strategies for high-quality development of shipping industry.

At the meeting, CCS released its development report and announced the official launch of its international ship Operation Center in Shanghai.

CCS has fully achieved its goal of becoming a first-rate international classification society with global competitiveness, as highlighted in the report. The vessels surveyed by CCS now totals 36000, with a combined gross tonnage of 210 million. CCS has completed survey work for major national projects, including the "MENG XIANG (DREAM)" China's first domestically designed and built deep-ocean drilling vessel, and "ADORA MAGIC CITY" the first homegrown large cruise. For years, CCS has focused on advancing intelligent, green, and digital shipping - areas that align closely with Shanghai's vision for emerging as international shipping center.

To further strengthen its global influence, CCS has actively planned to expand its service functions in Shanghai with strong support from MOT and Shanghai Government. The international ship business operation (function hub) center will establish an integrated service system covering the entire life cycle of ships - from design and construction to operation and maintenance. This "one-stop" solution will precisely address clients' diverse needs. By aligning with industry trends like smart shipping and green initiatives, CCS will provide new services continuously that meet international standards, driving the professional, intelligent, and global evolution of ship survey. Concurrently, CCS is coordinating research resources across regions to tackle technical challenges, aiming to form an international exchange system for shipping technology, fully supporting Shanghai international shipping center.

During the seminar, participants offered valuable suggestions on CCS future growth and leveling up the citys comprehensive capability as world-leading shipping center. Attendees unanimously agreed that industry stakeholders must enhance cooperation, accelerate green and low-carbon transitions, foster new quality productive forces, jointly tackle key technological challenges, and promote digital and intelligent development.
