On November 5, a grand ceremony was held at Jiangsu New Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. for undocking and naming the carrier “TIGER MAANSHAN”. The plan approval and construction survey of this 700-TEU-level deck cargo ship were implemented by China Classification Society (CCS). Multiple parties, including Zhang Dongbiao, the Deputy General Manager of CCS Jiangsu Branch, Luo Xiaofeng, the Director of Wuhan Rules & Research Institute, Gerry Wang, the Chairman of Tiger Group, and Xue Chaochun, the Director of Tiger Gas, were invited to attend the ceremony.

TIGER MAANSHAN was ordered by Tiger Gas, who entrusted Jiangsu New Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. to undertake its construction. It is the second completed carrier of the series of the four LNG tank container carriers ordered by Tiger Gas and classified only by a classification society, i. e. CCS.

This series of carriers are the largest dual-fuel deck cargo ships carrying LNG tank containers in the world. They are designed and constructed to make “breakthroughs in conventional design and demand-based innovation”, marking an important milestone of commercial LNG shipment modes.

The carrier is equipped with Type C LNG fuel tanks and a dual-fuel main engine. Its design speed is 16kn, and voyage up to 5,000NM under LNG-powering mode. It meets the requirements of Tier III in emission and can carry nearly 700 45ft LNG tank containers (equal to about 15,000t LNG). It is novel in modes, economically efficient, highly applicable, safe and stable, and environment-friendly. Compared with conventional LNG carriers, this series can deliver smaller single container packages and can be docked at smaller wharves flexibly, realizing “no tank replacement” and “cargo sender-through-receiver” shipment and obtaining possibly maximum flexibility in LNG supply chains.

CCS Jiangsu Branch, responsible for the field construction survey of the carrier, keeps pursuing innovative service modes and preparing customized service plans to fulfill customer service and technical guarantee. During such process, CCS Jiangsu Branch coordinates with CCS Headquarters and Wuhan Plan Approval Center, with the site project team serving as the base point, to form a smallest shipowner-shipyard interconnection unit. The project team built a technical assistance subteam to maintain close technical communication with the shipowner as well as provide special services, such as preparing Notice of Survey Application, carrying out special training, improving quality of sectional workshops and controlling key products. The subteam also provides assistance in analyzing the causes of quality defects, helps the shipyard to enhance quality management and control and then build a whole-process service mode.
