1　This Chapter applies to windlasses of sea-going ships that are driven electrically or hydraulically or by steam or external forces.
2　The “windlass” referred to in this Chapter is to be understood as “windlass and anchor capstan”, where appropriate.
3　Windlasses combined with mooring winches are to be referred to Chapter 3 Winches of this PART in addition to this Chapter.
