Recently, the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system installation project on the bulk carrier "Zheshan", inspected by China Classification Society (CCS), was completed and handed over. This achievement represents the first successful implementation of SCR installation inspection in the Middle East, further expanding CCS green inspection services.

The "Zheshan" was scheduled to transport large-scale chemical equipment from Abu Dhabi Industrial Zone Port through NOx emission control zones, requiring comprehensive upgrades of its eight Tier II diesel engines to Tier III standards. To save time, the shipowner opted for SCR retrofitting at Abu Dhabi's loading port. Upon receiving the inspection request, CCS Dubai Branch promptly formed a specialized team led by surveyors Lu Wei and Sun Yi. They thoroughly studied NTC regulations, SCR guidelines, and technical specifications, while organizing multiple technical briefings with stakeholders to clarify key challenges in drawing approval, material acceptance, and on-site inspections.

During the peak operational inspection period for the branch, team members braved challenges by frequently driving to construction sites, coordinating with foreign contractors, engineers, manufacturers, and design institutes. They strictly followed blueprints, rigorously monitored equipment installation quality, commissioning tests, and NOx emission evaluations to ensure safe, effective, and compliant system operation.

The successful implementation of this project not only demonstrates CCS's capabilities in green and low-carbon technology services for the Middle East region, but also provides valuable experience in ship exhaust treatment and environmental upgrades within the area. Moving forward, CCS will continue to focus on customer needs, strengthen green service offerings, and support the low-carbon transition and sustainable development of the Middle East shipping industry.
