With the popularization of lithium batteries in the field of new energy, refrigerated containers powered by lithium batteries have been used in China's road and railway transportation, gradually. Compared with shipping refrigerated containers and diesel-driven mechanical refrigerated containers, lithium battery-powered refrigerated containers have overwhelming superiorities in independent power supply, environmental protection and energy saving.
For better meeting the development needs of China's refrigerated containers transforming to the new energy powered type, CCS Wuhan Rules & Research Institute established a project to carry out the research on the application technologies of battery-powered refrigerated containers in 2021, and compiled the Guidelines for Survey of Lithium Battery-Powered Refrigerated Containers (2022) based on the research results.
Survey Guidelines
On February 21, 2022, CCS approved the release of the Guidelines for Survey of Lithium Battery-Powered Refrigerated Containers (2022), which will take effect from April 1, 2022.
Currently, the application of lithium battery-powered refrigerated containers in China is still in the trial operation stage, with a lack of related supporting technical standards. Focusing on the working characteristics and safety protection measures of lithium batteries, CCS project team systematically proposed the safety technical requirements for lithium battery system, battery management system, ventilation system, fire protection system and so on. Moreover, through the cooperation with CRRC Yangtze Co., Ltd., Hubei JiAnDun Fire Technology Co., Ltd. and other organizations, CCS project team has carried out experimental researches on fire protection system and detection of combustible gas concentration arising from lithium batteries’ thermal runaway. The release of the guidelines is expected to provide strong technical support for the design, manufacture, test and survey of lithium battery-powered refrigerated containers in China.
