The China Classification Society (CCS) Singapore Technical Committee has successfully hosted its 2026 Annual Meeting. For the first time, it featured two dedicated sessions: a dedicated technical session and an industry exchange session, bringing together over 80 guests and committee representatives from the maritime, shipbuilding, shipping, and transportation sectors. CCS Vice President Jiang Yafeng attended the meeting and delivered opening remarks.
In his address, Mr. Jiang expressed gratitude to all committee member organizations and industry partners for their long-standing trust and support for CCS. He stated that CCS will continue to strengthen international service, gather industry feedback through the Singapore Technical Committee, and integrate ship operating experience and clients' practical needs into rule development, technical research, and service optimization, thereby providing its clients with more targeted technical support.
At the meeting, Mr. Jiang presented appointment letters to 12 member organizations. This initiative marks an important step by CCS to deepen overseas technical exchange and improve the regional technical advisory mechanism, fully reflecting CCS’s emphasis on broader participation in rule development and technical cooperation. Going forward, the Committee will leverage the professional strengths of each member to conduct regular exchanges on rule amendments, common technical challenges, and research cooperation, so as to promote deeper integration of industry practice with CCS's technical work.
Mr. Sachin Saharawat, Chairman of the Committee and Technical Director of Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS), said that regular communication and collaboration between shipowners and classification societies are crucial, given the widespread adoption of new marine fuels and technologies as well as practical requirements for safe fleet operation. He encouraged members to actively share frontline experience and provide ongoing feedback on operational issues and suggestions for improvement, helping CCS make its rules clearer, more practical and better suited to industry realities.
The meeting reviewed the 2027 Amendments to the CCS Rules for Classification of Sea-Going Steel Ships. Prior to the meeting, CCS Singapore Branch had circulated the draft amendments to all member organizations and had broadly consolidated feedback from the industry. At the meeting, CCS technical experts gave a detailed presentation on the core revisions and disposition of submitted comments. Besides, representatives from each member organization exchanged in-depth views on technical provisions and implementation challenges based on ship operating practice, offering valuable input to further refine the rules. During the industry exchange session, CCS presented its development and the latest achievements in smart ship technology, followed by discussions among participants on industry trends and diversified cooperation.
Moving forward, CCS will continue regular annual technical exchanges through the Committee, deepen practical cooperation with Southeast Asia’s shipping industry, and jointly support the safe, green, smart and high-quality development of global shipping.
