China Classification Society (CCS) Issued the First Principle Approval Certificate for Combustion Technology of Jet Pilot Direct-injection Ammonia Engine to Dalian University of Technology

On February 9, the Dalian Branch of China Classification Society (CCS) issued the first CCS principle approval certificate for marine products of jet pilot direct-injection ammonia engine combustion technology to Dalian University of Technology. Zhang Hui, General Manager of the Dalian Branch, Yao Shan, Vice President of Dalian University of Technology, and relevant leaders and experts from both sides attended the certificate issuing ceremony.

This is the first time that CCS has approved the combustion technology of ammonia fuel engine. It is an important technical cooperation achievement between CCS and Dalian University of Technology in the application research of ammonia fuel, which provides a technical route and solution for promoting the transformation of carbon emission reduction technology achievements and realizing real ship application.

The combustion technology of jet pilot direct-injection ammonia engine is an innovative technical scheme proposed by Professor Long Wuqiang of Dalian University of Technology for the research of ammonia fuel engine to achieve zero carbon emissions. The technology ensures stable operation of the ammonia fuel engine, and meets the expected indicators in terms of thermal efficiency and fuel substitution rate, and it is in the domestic leading position. 

During the service process, Dalian Branch has innovated the inspection method on demand of Dalian University of Technology, verified the selection of simulation modeling process and mechanism model, checked the value basis of simulation parameters, compared different combustion schemes through simulation, and calibrated the simulation model through principle prototype test, successfully completing the approval work.

At the ceremony, Zhang Hui congratulated Professor Long Wuqiang on successfully obtaining the principle approval certificate for marine products of “jet pilot direct-injection ammonia engine combustion technology”, and said that CCS has insisted on keeping up with the forefront of the development of low carbon/zero carbon technology for ships, strengthened the innovation drive, constantly deepened and expanded the technical cooperation with Dalian University of Technology, and promoted the in-depth integration of production, teaching, research and application to comprehensively facilitate the green development of shipbuilding, shipping and equipment manufacturing industries.

Yao Shan thanked CCS for its support to Dalian University of Technology, and said that Dalian University of Technology would take this opportunity to further strengthen cooperation, continue to explore the full-chain management mechanism and operation mode of “technology-product-commodity”, promote the implementation and transformation of more achievements, and further support the innovation-driven development strategy, the construction of an intellectual property power and an  world-class university.
