On March 3, 2022, China's first 210,000 DWT Newcastle-type upgraded intelligent bulk carrier SHANDONG NEW ERA, which was surveyed by CCS Shanghai Branch, was successfully delivered in Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (SWS Shipyard).

Since the issuance of the additional notation certificates — Intelligent Ship (Intelligent Cabin, Intelligent Energy Efficiency) and Ship Network Security (S), SHANDONG New ERA has become China’s first large bulk carrier that obtained the network security class notation certified by CCS. This marks a new breakthrough in the intelligent function of large bulk carriers made in China.

The SHANDONG NEW ERA carrier, with a total design length 299.68 m, breadth 50 m and depth 25.2 m, is classed by CCS as single class. The ship will be mainly engaged in iron ore transportation from Australia to China.

As a demonstration ship incorporating the key technical research results of intelligent integration and remote O&M in SWS Shipyard, this carrier is characterized with core technical breakthrough, for example, intelligent integration, upgradability, data standardization, and remote O&M. By building an intelligent integration and remote O&M platform, consisting of the "one platform +N intelligent applications", it successfully applied the intelligent integration, equipment O&M, energy efficiency management, enhanced visual aided navigation, 3D image intelligent aided berthing, remote one-button anchoring of windlass, remote shore-based management and control, shore-based data analysis services and other digital systems to the 30 categories of equipment in the carrier.

Throughout the whole process from the technical service before building to the successful delivery, experts from CCS Shanghai Branch, CCS Shanghai Rules& Reserch Institute and the Headquarters worked together and spared no efforts to provide efficient and high-quality technical services for the shipowner and the shipyard.
