Introduction

In the next several years, IMO will focus on the consideration of Lifecycle GHG and Carbon Intensity Guidelines for maritime fuels and mid-term and long-term GHG reduction measures, which will have a significant impact on future ship operations and new shipbuilding markets.

Shipping decarbonization is not only bringing far-reaching influence for shipping itself but also reshaping the related industry such as energy supply, shipbuilding and manufacturing industries. While recognizing the grand challenges for getting to zero-carbon shipping, the industries also see different opportunities.

Since IMO's existing ship carbon intensity rules came into force in 2021, new requirements have been set for global shipowners. Experts from CCS (China Classification Society) will share with INTERCARGO members the current implementation practice of the new ship carbon intensity regulations in combination with actual cases and analysis of the performance of the global fleet.
