The 307,000 DWT very large crude carrier (VLCC) "CS HUNAN VENTURE" surveyed by China Classification Society (CCS) was successfully delivered in Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Group Co., Ltd.

The 307,000 DWT very large crude carrier (VLCC) "CS HUNAN VENTURE" surveyed by China Classification Society (CCS) was successfully delivered in Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Group Co., Ltd. on June 24. Fan Qiang, Vice President of CCS, was invited to attend the ship delivery and naming ceremony. CS HUNAN VENTURE is an energy-saving and environment-friendly VLCC tailored by Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Group Co., Ltd. for CSSC Chuanhai Economy Co., Ltd. and Wah Kwong Maritime Transport Holdings Ltd under CSIC. It is the latest VLCC product developed by Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Group Co., Ltd., and its comprehensive performance indices have reached the world first class.

The ship has a total length of 333 m, a width of 60 m and a cruising range of more than 26,000 nautical miles. It can pass through the Strait of Malacca with a designed draft of 20.5 m and normal loading of 2 million barrels of crude oil. It meets the Harmonized Common Structural Rules (HCSR), is equipped with an open desulfurization scrubber, and is provided with the Inventory of Hazardous Materials according to EU regulations. The ship has excellent energy-saving and environmental protection performance because it has a straight bow design profile and is equipped with a new type of main engine, a propeller of large-diameter and high-efficiency, and a before-propeller energy-saving device of which Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Group Co., Ltd. has independent intellectual property right, thus showing remarkable energy-saving effect. It is a new generation of ship brand with great market competitiveness.

Oil tankers classified by CCS cover all types of ships, including VLCC, Suezmax, Aframax, Panamax and Handysize, as well as LR1, LR2 and MR product oil tankers, shuttle oil tankers, and integral or independent type petroleum asphalt carriers. CCS also provides customers with a series of technical services, involving CSR ship type upgrade, anti-sediment design, emission control solutions, ship intelligentization, vibration and noise assessment, shafting vibration and alignment, and ship energy efficiency.

Adhering to the principle of "safety, environmental protection and creating value for customers and society", CCS provides 7x24-hour inspection and technical support services for shipowners relying on its more than 120 offices/branches all over the world. With the efficient service architecture, CCS continuously provides all-round support for survey activities, ship safety and security, and emergency response. Excellent performance has been achieved continuously in the three major Memos, and its fleet size is growing healthily and steadily.

Up to now, CCS has 99 VLCC ships classed by CCS, of which 62 VLCC ships are single classed.

In recent years, in view of the development trend of energy conservation, environmental protection and intelligentization in the shipping industry, CCS has been continuously improving its scientific research and innovation capabilities, and has jointly developed with major domestic shipyards many VLCC ship types which are internationally leading in energy conservation, environmental protection and intelligentization, creating a number of outcomes with independent intellectual property rights and technological advantages. For example:

In 2015, in order to support the development of intelligent ships, CCS issued the Rules for Intelligent Ships, which have been fully recognized and widely used by the industry. In the field of VLCC, in 2019, the world's first intelligent 308,000 DWT VLCC "New Journey" was successfully delivered for operation in Dalian. The ship was classified by CCS as a single class and was assigned with the notation: i-Ship (N, M, Et, C, I) for intelligent ships by CCS.

In 2018, 308,000 DWT "New Vitality", the world's first VLCC equipped with sailing devices was delivered for operation, thus achieving the engineering application of sailing on VLCC. The ship was also classified as a single class by CCS. CCS participated in the scientific research of the ship, and drafted technical documents such as Guidelines for Application of Sailing Devices, which indicate that CCS has fully possessed the verification ability of wind-assisted propulsion application technology.

In 2019, DSIC obtained a real ship order for LNG dual-fuel VLCC, which, as a single class by CCS, is the first LNG dual-fuel VLCC in the world. Currently, CCS is orderly carrying out plan approval and construction inspection for this ship and it is expected that the ship will be delivered at the end of 2021.
