CCS issued new edition of Rules for Smart Ships and Rules for Green Ships.

On December 4, Chen Shi, the Director of CCS Shanghai Rules & Research Institute, released the new edition of Rules for Smart Ships and Rules for Green Ships on behalf of CCS at the Shipping& Port session of 10th International Shipping Strategy Development Workshop, Marintec China.

The new Rules for Smart Ships incorporates the technical requirements for remotely-controlled ships and autonomously-operated ships and proposes more definite technical requirements on various functions of smart ships. The new Rules for Green Ships redefines the green and ecologic requirements for ships, which are classified into ecologic conservation and environmental protection. The new Rules for Green Ships gives brand-new additional marking for the green ships, and its framework fully embodies the general trend for energy saving, emission reduction and environmental protection advocated both at home and abroad. The Rules for Smart Ships and the Rules for Green Ships will come into effect on March 1, 2020 and July 1, 2020, respectively.

CCS will continue to use its advantages in rules and standards research and development, intelligent and green technology services, providing all-round technical support and services to the industry.

Zhang Lin, Deputy Director of Shanghai Municipal Transportation Committee, and Sun Jiakang, the President of Danish Maritime Authority Andreas Nordseths and the President of China COSCO Shipping Corporation Limiited, among others, also attended at the workshop and gave remarkable speeches.

 

CCS Holds Workshop on New Technology for Smart Ships

The news conference/workshop on new technology for smart ships was held by CCS on February 4 during the Marintec China. Sun Feng, Vice President of CCS, attended at the conference. At the conference, the prospect on the future development trend of smart ships was discussed and the Rules for Smart Ships (2020) and the Guidelines on Requirements for Ship Network System and Security Assessment described in details. CCS experts attending the conference introduced the key technologies for smart ships and engineering practice in various topics, which was well received.

Since the release of the Rules for Smart Ships in 2015, CCS has carried out extensive cooperation with the industry and promoted the development of smart ships technology. A series of bulk cargo ships, container ships, very large crude carriers, very large ore carriers, polar expedition ship, etc. have labelled with additional marking for smart ships one after another.

At the conference, CCS experts analyzed the development route of smart ships and the technology development orientation, and predicted ten major development trends of smart ships in future, including “perception enhancement and aid decision-making technology constantly improves”, “autonomous shipping advances and remote control is the priority” and “smart ships and bank-based control center will be in coordinated operation”.

CCS experts also presented the revised Rules for Smart Ships. The new Rules incorporates the technical requirements for remotely-controlled ships and autonomously-operated ships, and proposes more specific technical requirements for various functions of smart ships. Later, CCS experts presented the revised Guidelines on Requirements for Ship Network System and Security Assessment, which refines the classification of ship network security additional marking Cyber Security, adds key elements for assessment of ship network security and at the same time adjusts the process for ships and network security assessment and inspection requirements.

Key technologies of smart ships were discussed at the conference. During the testing & verification technologies session, CCS experts analyzed the IMO’s Guideline for Temporary Trial Trip, presented the technologic research on trial trip and practice conducted by CCS under the framework of the Guideline and highlighted the technologies for trial trip risk assessment, smart system and equipment testing and verification, etc. Guests from Wuhan University of Technology made a presentation themed “Study and Practice of Inland River Smart Ships”, sharing their research findings in development of inland river smart shipping system and virtual-real fusion testing and presenting the practice in autonomous shipping and autonomous berthing and departing via experimental cargo ship. Guests from Zhuhai Icloud Navigation Technology Co., Ltd. made a presentation in the theme of “Practice of Autonomous Shipping”, detailing progress in construction of Wanshan Test Field at Zhuhai and the proposal for “Jindouyun 0” autonomously-operated ships, releasing the test results of autonomous encountering and remote control berthing and departing and having an outlook on the industrialization of smart ships.

During the UAV Inspection Application & Practice session, CCS experts presented the key technologies for UAV inspection, rules and standards drafting, implementation of close-look inspection and recognition of UAV inspection service company as providers, etc. based on the practice and application of UAV in ship close-look inspection.

CCS, through this new technology workshop, unveiled the latest technologic progress in smart ships, discussed the key difficulties in relation to the smart ships development and communicated with relevant entities in cooperation in smart technologies.

 

Latest News of CCS during the Marintec China

The Ships and Marine Equipment Technology Forum, a session of the Senior Marine Forum during the Marintec China 2019 was held in Shanghai on December 2. Mr.Cai Yulian, the Director of Scientific Innovation and Test Center of CCS, introduced the development of smart ships in the world at the Forum.

On December 4, experts from the Overseas Technologies Center of CCS, upon the invitation from NVATOR, delivered a speech at the Smart Technology Exchange Forum during the Marintec China 2019, and presented the development and prospect of smart technology by CCS.

On December 4, a delegation visited the booth of CCS at Marintec China. Members of the delegation include Mr. Li Mingde, Deputy Director of China Geological Survey, Mr. Zhou Chang, Deputy Director of the Equipment Department of China Geological Survey, Mr. Liu Fengying, assistant of the Director of Guangzhou Marine Geological Survey, Mr. Tang Jun, the Director, Mr. Yu Liang, the Deputy Director and Mr. Su Xiaojiang, assistant chief engineer of Guangzhou Marine Geological Survey. Mr. Yang Qingxia, the Director of CCS Marine Technology Center, introduced to Deputy Director Li Mingde the global networks of CCS and its development status in globalization. CCS is currently providing preliminary support for classification of deep-water drilling ship project planned by China Geological Survey.

 

CCS Hosted Information Session for Hotspot Marine Technologies

The information session for hotspot marine technologies organized by China Classification Society (CCS) kicked off at CCS booth at am 10:00 December 4. During the two-hour information session, five specialists from China Classification Society Industrial Corp and China Classification Society Certification Company (CCSC) shared state-of-art hotspot technologies at the site with the audiences.

Hot spot 1: In the speech titled “On the Detection of Weatherproofness of Ships and Offshore Facilities – Analysis on the Application of Ultrasonic Detection”, relevant specialist from CCSI Dalian Branch presented the structural features about the weatherproofness of ships and offshore facilities and development history, development status and prospect of ultrasonic detection in the sector, and highlighted the performance characteristics of ULTREAD ultrasonic tester independently developed by CCSI Dalian Branch.

Hot spot 2: In the speech titled “Research and Application of Intelligent Testing Technology”, relevant specialist from CCSI presented the current situation of intelligent testing technology and pointed out the intelligent testing technology is the foundation for the research of smart ships and unmanned ships. He also introduced the composition and characteristics of intelligent testing system, and the connotation and application of different modules, and showcased the obvious advantages of intelligent testing system in security, accuracy and efficiency by comparing with the testing by conventional system in actual application scenes.

Hot spot 3: In the speech titled “Accelerating the Industrialized and Digitalized Transformation of Ships and Enhancing the Core Competitiveness of Shipbuilders”, relevant specialist from CCSC Fuzhou Branch presented the progress of industrialization and digitalization-integrated management system assessment of shipbuilders by CCSC, and how to promote the industrialized and digitalized transformation of ships, and highlighted the achievements made by Jiangnan Shipyard (Group) Co., Ltd. after the digitalized transformation by taking the opportunity given by the industrialization and digitalization-integrated management system.

Hot spot 4: In the speech titled “Third Party Technical Services Promotes Shore Power Development in China”, relevant specialist from CCSC Zhejiang Branch introduced the progress CCSC made in the active research on shore power technology and how to carry out the field work and break technical barrier to significantly promote the development of shore power for berthing ships.

Hot spot 5: In the speech titled “Green Factory Leads New Mode for High-quality Development of Shipbuilders”, relevant specialist from CCSC Shanghai Branch highlighted the development status of green manufacturing system in China and introduced the Guideline on Evaluation of Green Factory in Shipbuilding Sector as the basis for construction and evaluation of green factory in shipbuilding sector, leading a new mode for high-quality development of shipbuilders.

The information session drew high attention from the audiences, and all seats at the site were occupied. There was intense interaction at the site, producing a good promotion effect.

 

CCS Issues “Marine Air Layer Energy Saving System” Accreditation Certificate to No.702 Institute of China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation

CCS issued the Approval-In-Principle (AIP) Certificate for the “Marine Air Layer Energy Saving System”, a latest scientific achievement by No. 702 Institute affiliated to China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (“No. 702 Institute”), to No. 702 Institute at the CCS booth during the Marintec China 2019 on December 4. This is the first of its kind issued by CCS for such technology. No. 702 Institute is also the first entity to receive an AIP Certificate for the “Marine Air Layer Energy Saving System”.

At the awarding ceremony, Mr. Huang Guofu, General Manager of CSIC (Shanghai) Energy Saving Technology Development Co., Ltd., first made an introduction of the Marine Air Layer Energy Saving System. Later on, the Vice President of CCS Su Feng presented the AIP Certificate for the “Marine Air Layer Energy Saving System” to Mr. Zhou Weixin, the secretary of the Party Committee of No. 702 Institute, and extended his sincere congratulation to No. 702 Institute. The Vice President of CCS Su Feng said that No. 702 Institute has been the strategic partner of CCS for years, both parties have made arduous efforts in the design, development, approval, application and testing of the Marine Air Layer Energy Saving System, and the awarding of the first AIP Certificate for the “Marine Air Layer Energy Saving System” denotes that such technology has shifted from scientific research to application, providing new solution to environmental protection and energy saving for ships. The research of marine air layer energy saving technology and its successful application in real ship also improves the testing technology system of CCS, a full embodiment of production-research integration, which is of great significance to both sides.

The secretary Zhou Weixin extended his thanks to the long-term cooperation with and support from CCS, and gave the latest manned bathyscaph “Deep Sea Warrior” model to CCS as a gift.

CCS paid high attention and actively coordinated with the research and development of the Marine Air Layer Energy Saving System, from the prototype to the application in real ship. Under the direct guidance of CCS Head Office, a special working team was organized by CCS Jiangsu Office together with Shanghai Rules & Research Institute to conduct the technical service, drawing review and approval-in-principle and perform the verification on real ship. The verification result shows that the technical principle of such system is feasible, capable of applying in real ship and having the effect of saving energy, reducing emission, improving the energy efficiency of ships and reducing EEDI. The governments of various countries had issued increasingly harsh environmental protection policies in recent years, and the cost of shipping fuel stays at high levels. With noticeable energy saving effect, the Marine Air Layer Energy Saving System provides an energy saving alternative for the shipowners.

CCS and No. 702 Institute will take this cooperation as the opportunity to cooperate in wider sectors, making greater contribution to make our skies blue again and build a country with better transportation.

At pm15:30 December 4, the Type Approval Certificate Awarding Ceremony for 41K m3 LNGC & 26K m3 LNGC kicked off at CCS booth with the joint effort from CCS and France-based GTT and Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group Co., Ltd. (WS). The Vice President of CCS Su Feng, Mr. Hanin from GTT and Deputy General Manger of WS Wang Weiling each delivered a speech at the ceremony. The Vice President Su Feng awarded the Ship Type Approval Certificate to WS and GTT on behalf of CCS.

The 41K m3 LNGC & 26K m3 LNGC released today is based on the GTT MARK III membrane tank maintenance system technology, a type of carrier specially designed for meeting the requirements of LNG terminal at Yangtze River trunk line and Yangtze River Channel, capable of reaching the LNG terminal at Wuhu and Wuhan from the sea directly, providing a river-sea transportation one-stop LNG carrier solution. At pm15:30 December 4, the Type Approval Certificate Awarding Ceremony of Marine Converter kicked off at CCS booth with the joint efforts from CCS and CRRC Corporation Limited (CRRC). The Vice President of CCS Sun Feng and Vice President of CRRC Yu Weiping each gave a speech at the ceremony. The Vice President Sun Feng awarded the Type Approval Certificate of Low-pressure 690V Marine Converter and Medium-pressure 3300V Marine Converter to CRRC Zhuzhou Institute Co., Ltd. on behalf of CCS.

AIP Certificate Awarding Ceremony of Waste Heat Recovery System

At pm16:00 December 4, China Classification Society (CCS) hosted an AIP certificate awarding ceremony for Waste Heat Recovery System at CCS booth together with Harbin Engineering University. The Vice President of CCS Sun Feng and Vice President of Harbin Engineering University each delivered a speech at the ceremony. The Vice President Sun Feng handed over the AIP Certificate of Waste Heat Recovery System to Harbin Engineering University on behalf of CCS.

Harbin Engineering University, with accumulated long-term experience in waste heat recovery research, has finished the validation research of waste heat recovery system matching test and preliminary mastered the key technology to recycle the waste heat from marine diesel engine power system.

This issuance of AIP Certificate of Waste Heat Recovery System is a new successful attempt in national scientific research project service, laying solid foundation for further deepening the production-university cooperation. As a strategic partnership of Harbin Engineering University, CCS will proactively promote the cooperation with Harbin Engineering University in various fields and deeper level, giving play to its advantages in rules& standards research and technical service for new products, so as to provide all-round support and service to the various national projects undertaken by Harbin Engineering University.

 

Type Approval Certificate Awarding Ceremony for River-sea Transportation 40K m3 LNG Carrier

At pm17:00 December 4, China Classification Society (CCS) issued the Type Approval Certificate for River-sea Transportation 40K m3 LNG Carrier to Shanghai Merchant Ship Design and Research Institute (SDARI) and Norway-based SAGA SHIPPING at SDARI Promotion Session. The Vice President of CCS Fan Qiang issued the certificate on behalf of CCS.

The 40K m3 LNG Carrier released today is based on LNT A-BOX independent tank maintenance system technology, a type of carrier specially designed for meeting the requirements of LNG terminal at Yangtze River trunk line and Yangtze River Channel, providing a river-sea transportation one-stop LNG carrier solution. LNT A-BOX containment system can be widely applied in LNG liquid tank, LNG fuel tank and LNG storage tank. Recently, this system has obtained USCG Approval Certificate and won the annual technology award at LNG World Shipping 2019.
