China Classification Society Officially Elected as Chairman of QACE

The annual conference of QACE was held in London recently. Wang Chen, the director of CCS Marine Affairs Center in London, was elected as the Chairman of QACE for two-year term by the members at the meeting.

QACE, founded on November 24, 2010, is a non-profit organization established by 12 EU-recognized classification societies according to Article 11 of Regulation on Common Rules and Standards for Ship Inspection and Survey Organizations and Directive (EC391/2009) by EU. Existing members of QAEC includes China Classification Society (CCS), American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), Bureau Veritas (BV), Croatian Register of Shipping (CRS), Det Norske Veritas (DNV-GL), Indian Register of Shipping (IRS), Korean Register of Shipping (KR), Lloyds Register of Shipping (LR), ClassNK (NK), Polish Register of Shipping (PRS), Registo Italliano Navade (RINA) and Russian Marine Register of Shipping (RS).

CCS is the fifth chairman elected by QACE members following RINA, DNV, ABS and BV, and also the first Asian member to hold such position.

Main responsibilities of QACE include: Assessment of the quality management system of the organizations recognized by the European Union regularly according to ISO9001; certification of quality management system of the recognized organizations (including organizations applying for recognition); release of explanation on the internationally-recognized quality management standard, in particular considering the specific characteristics of the nature and responsibilities of recognized organizations; and giving suggestions for improvement of individuation and generality of the process and internal control mechanism of recognized organizations.
