release time:2022-03-02 14:03

To address the security risks brought about by increasing reliance on internet for management of ships, and the risk of ship detention for failing to manage the network properly as required by IMO and IACS, China Classification Society (CCS) analyzes cyber security status quo for shipowners and management companies and provides tailor-made cyber security risk and safety assessment.

Focusing on technical and management aspects and taking ship network assets as the core, security risk/safety assessment analyzes inherent vulnerability and the threats faced with in order to improve cyber defense and risk control capability and the safety and threat defense ability of ship cyber system.

Related services are as follows:

1.   Company shore-based cyber information security risk assessment

To make analysis and judgment of the security status quo of the cyber information asset of the company's shore-based network and the possible security risks to which the cyber information asset may be exposed. To assess the effectiveness of the existing security measures, evaluate the risks (the possibility and consequence of cyber security incident) and propose measures to deal with high risks that have been identified.

2.   Company shore-based cyber information safety assessment

To carry out technical analysis of company’s shore-based network through technical means. To carry out technical inspections such as vulnerability scan and configuration check to shore-based network according to the existing regulations and requirements. To analyze the loopholes and risks of cyber system and provide corrective suggestions and inspection report.

3.   Ship cyber Information security risk assessment

The assessment of ship cyber security from the perspectives of technology and management procedures includes: the threat the ship is exposed to and vulnerability of the ship; threat defense capability of the ship's critical ship-shore communication system; confidentiality, integrity and availability of critical information; risk control scheme; emergency response and rapid recovery capability.

4.   Ship cyber Information safety assessment

To carry out technical inspections such as real ship loophole scan and configuration check by means of ship cyber safety assessment equipment. To analyze the loopholes and risks of ship cyber system in light of the field inspection of ships and provide improvement suggestions and assessment report.

So far, CCS has performed security risk and safety assessment to multiple types of ships including very large container ships, very large ore carriers, very large crude oil carriers and heavy cargo carriers.
