On June 5, the Annual Meeting of CCS Mediterranean Committee and CCS Mediterranean Technical Committee were held in Athens, Greece. The Committee meeting was hosted by Chairman Capt. Spyros Karnessis, and attended by Vice Chairmen Simos Palios and Angeliki Frangou, Technical Committee Chairman Vassilis Papageorgiou, as well as many other members.
CCS President Mr. Sun Licheng delivered the opening remarks for the meeting. He said that over the past decade, CCS had made remarkable business achievements in Greece and the Mediterranean region, which would not have been possible without the great support of the members. He sincerely thanked the members, hoped for their continued and even greater support in future, and expected a closer cooperation with them.
CCS Vice President Mr. Mo Jianhui reported to the Committee on CCS business and technical achievements as well as future development goals, analyzed current maritime issues, and proposed suggestions on related cooperation between CCS and the members.
The members present congratulated Sun Licheng, who used to be a captain on a sea-going ship, on his appointment as CCS President and placed high expectations on his future work. They were delighted to learn about CCS development and expressed their willingness to keep supporting CCS. The members also had an in-depth discussion on latest international conventional requirements regarding cold ironing for ships, ballast water management, use of low sulphur oil and shipping emission, and fully exchange ideas on issues of common concern such as ship financing and fleet condition. The members said that Greek shipowners hoped for a more positive and significant role of China¡¯s shipping industry and Chinese government in the international maritime arena.
On the same evening, CCS hosted a reception for the annual meeting, attended by former Greek Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Theodoros Pangalos, Greek Parliament member Mr. Ioannis Pottakisthe, Posidonia Exhibitions Chairman Mr. Themistocles Th. Vokos, Chinese Ambassador to Greece Mr. Du Qiwen, Political Counsellor Ms. Zhao Liying, Commercial Counsellor Mr. Sun Liwei, and more than 100 representatives from over 20 Greek shipping companies and several Chinese companies.
The delegation headed by Mr. Sun Licheng also attended the opening ceremony of Posidonia 2012 as well as some other relevant activities.
