Rules for sea-going ships:  according to IACS unified requirements, IMO conventions and regulations, ISO standards, IEC standards, relevant theory and technical research achievements, experience of ship design, manufacture and survey, accident analysis and feedback comments, having prepared “Rules and Regulations for the Construction and Classification of Sea-going Steel Ships”, “Rules and Regulations for the Construction and Classification of Sea-going High Speed Craft” and “Rules for Survey of Coastal Small Craft”, fully providing ship owner, shipyard and design unit with technical standards for design, construction and survey of ships such as dry cargo ships, bulk carriers, oil tankers, container ships, ships carrying liquefied gases, ships carrying chemicals, workships, high-speed craft and small ships.

Guidelines for ships:as an important part of the rules system for sea-going ships, the purpose of which is to more clearly explain the principal stipulations of ship rules more clearly, to clarify the survey requirements for novel ships and to satisfy the requirements of the maritime circles in all respects, including “Guidelines for Direct Calculation of Hull Structural Strength”, “Guidelines for Assessment of Crankshaft Strength of Diesel Engine”, “Guidelines for Arrangement of Pumps and Pipes”, “Guidelines for Fire-fighting on Ships”, “Short Circuit Calculation for AC Power System of Ships and Offshore Installations”, “Guidelines for Control of Ship Vibration” and “Guidelines for Application and Survey of Computers on Board”, which cover such fields as hull, machinery, electricity, vibration, inspection of software and hardware, and provide support and supplement to CCS Rules for Sea-going Ships.

COMPASS-RULE calculation system for sea-going ships: including ship structure calculation system, ship performance calculation system, ship shafting calculation system and ship electrical calculation system, which are successfully applied in analysis and evaluation of direct technology of large oil tankers, container ships and bulk carriers and all types of novel ships and structures, and analysis of shafting vibration and alignment accident, and have solved a large amount of technical problems on design and ship operation.

Ship structure calculation system is applicable to hull structure strength evaluation, 3-dimensional finite element strength analysis of hold area of oil tanker, bulk cargo carrier and container ship, finite element analysis of hull structural strength, analysis of hull general structure, special structural calculation and hull rules design, and bending and torsional strength analysis, fatigue analysis and hull vibration evaluation of large-opening container ship.

Ship performance calculation system is applicable to calculation of floating and intact stability, shearing force and bending moment of all ships of normal type, split stern hull form and small waterplane twin-hull type under all kinds of loading condition, stability analysis and  tonnage calculation of grain in bulk in bulk

Ship performance calculation system is applicable to calculation of floating and intact stability, shearing force and bending moment of all ships of normal type, split stern hull form and small waterplane twin-hull type under all kinds of loading condition, stability analysis and tonnage calculation of grain in bulk in bulk carrier, and calculation analysis of balancing afloat condition, residual stability curve and subdivision index of passenger ships and cargo ships after being damaged by deterministic or probability methods.

Ship shafting calculation system is applicable to evaluation of crankshaft strength and gear strength of diesel engine onboard, and calculation of longitudinal vibration, whirling vibration and shafting alignment of ship propelling shafting.

Ship electricity calculation system is applicable to evaluation of short circuit making capacity and short circuit segmentation capability of selected protecting electrical installations and electrodynamic stability of bus-bar.

Wuhan Rules & Research Institute

Rules and regulations for inland waterway ships: In line with development of inland waterway shipping and shipbuilding, incorporating experience in design, construction and survey of ships and based on research results, findings of accident investigation and customer feedback, the Rules and Regulations for the Construction and Classification of Inland Waterways Steel Ships, Rules for Construction and Classification of Inland Waterways High-speed Craft, Rules for the Construction and Equipment of Inland Waterways Ships Carrying Dangerous Chemicals in Bulk, and Rules for the Construction and Equipment of Inland Waterways Ships Carrying Liquefied Gases in Bulk were developed, which provide owners, shipbuilders and designers with comprehensive technical standards for design, construction and survey of dry bulk carriers, oil tankers, passenger ships, push and tow tugs, container ships, ro-ro ships, twin hull craft, engineering vessels, high speed craft, liquefied gas carriers and chemical tankers.

Guidelines and instructions for inland waterway ships: As an important integral part of rules system for inland waterway ships, they were developed to achieve a clear-cut explanation of essential paragraphs of ship rules and clarification of requirements for plan approval and survey in respect to ships of special structural configuration, thereby meeting customers’ need. They include Guidelines for Direct Calculation of Hull Structures of Inland Waterways Steel Ships, Guidelines for Manoeuvrability of Inland Waterways Ships, Simplified Stability Calculation for Inland Waterways Passenger Ships of 5 – 10 m in Length Used in Service C, Surveyors’ Instructions on shafting torsional vibration of Inland Waterways Ships. These guidelines and instructions constitute an effective support and supplement to rules for inland waterway ships.

Rules calculation system (compass ¨C inland) for inland waterway ships:It consists of marine hydrostatic calculation and stability criteria system, and integrated analysis programming system for ships with large deck openings. These systems are capable of effectively analyzing and solving numerous technical issues in design, plan approval and in-service survey.

    1. Marine hydrostatic calculation and stability criteria system: used for all types of inland waterway ships in calculations related to hydrostatic performance, free surface correction, inclining test, intact stability, capacity curve, floodable length curve, damage stability and end launching.

    2. Integrated analysis programming system for ships with large deck openings: used for inland waterway container ships, single side skin ship with large openings and twin hull craft in calculation and analysis of bending and torsional strength, and for all types of inland waterway ships in calculations related to hydrostatic bending moment, wave moment as well as in check and analysis of longitudinal strength.
