In the afternoon of December 1，2009, the first 180k dwt bulk carrier designed by our own country but representing the world advanced level was delivered at Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. It reveals that the biggest base in Qingdao, Shandong for ship repairing & building in our country was accomplished to have the capability for building large-size ships. President Li was invited to attend and address the naming ceremony

President Li said that the 180K dwt bulk carrier is one of the world newest designed capesize bulk carriers, that was planned, developed, designed, constructed and classified by Chinese on our own and represented the good China brand in shipbuilding. The ship was among the first batch of CSR-compliant capesize bulk carriers in the world. The first orders for this design contained 40 bulk carriers, and 16 out of them were signed by HOSCO who was the 1st ranking in number. It is also the first time for CCS to conduct survey and certification for such a large number of large size newbuildings in its history.

The 180K dwt bulk carrier is the biggest ship that has ever been built in Shandong in its history, and named by the international shipping industry as “China type bulk carrier”. Its technical parameters are better than the same type of vessels in the world, which are fit for the carriage of coal, grain & ore. Its LOA is 295 m, moulded breath 46 m and moulded depth 24.8 m. Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. has signed building contracts for 17 such bulk carriers, 11 already under commencement. All ships will be delivered in the first half of 2011.
