2012-09-24

On 21 September 2012, IMO Secretary-General Koji Sekimizu visited CCS Headquarters. CCS Chairman & President Mr. Sun Licheng held a friendly talk with him.

Mr. Sun Licheng introduced to Mr. Sekimizu about CCS¡¯s overall development and her development concept as well as the contribution of CCS as a technical organization in supporting the Chinese government and the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) to participate in IMO work. CCS history was not as long as others, but its development concept, growth speed and quality and its contribution to the international maritime community left Mr. Sekimizu a deep impression and were much appreciated by him. Mr. Sekimizu said that it¡¯s very natural for CCS to provide technical support for the rapid development of China¡¯s economy, shipping and shipbuilding industries. By the same token, the goal of China in making a strong shipping and shipbuilding country also provides a solid foundation for CCS further development. He believed that CCS would have a brighter future.

Both sides also fully exchanged their view on many issues of common concern including GBS, EEDI, BWM Convention, future ship safety and maritime sustainable development concept. Mr. Sekimizu said that IMO and the international maritime community are facing many challenges, especially under the circumstances where the international maritime legislation is undergoing immense change and the entire industry is getting together to find the solution. The role of classification societies is very important and prominent in the process. It is expected that all classification societies including CCS would make greater contribution.

Mr. Ren Weimin, Deputy Director General of the International Cooperation Department of the Chinese Ministry of Transport and Mr. Zhu Kai, CCS Vice president & Chief Engineer attended the meeting.
